Bowen is interested in the surface defects, charge transfer, and interface engineering of metal nanoparticle-supported mixed ion and electronic conductors. His current research focuses on developing heterogeneous catalysts for protonic and oxygen ion solid oxide electrolysis cells and fuel cells.
